Full write up later, but holy crap this thing is fun.
The mustang door projectors are growing on me too, everybody who sees them seems to think they are awesome. Photo from a different car

Please be true with your words, based on them, tomorrow I might purchase a Mustang.

I had a Boostang as a rental for two weeks. Don’t do it.

It feels like an e92 M3, or pretty much my benchmark for how to do a grand tourer right.

Wow. Never seen a cali edition GT as a rental.
And yeah, they are lots of fun. I bought my ‘16 GT after driving a few rental ‘15's and really loving the quality, performance and dynamics.

Just get a GT. If you look around, crazy deals can be had that make it very little extra over an EB. Much more characterful car in GT form. The EB is plenty capable, but the small real world gas mileage advantage over the GT isnt worth not having the V8.
I was considering an EB but one drive in a GT sold me.

This.
I was considering an e9x m3 before the mustang, but i couldnt see any real advantage other than a slightly better chassis out of the box(a set of decent tires and koni’s make the mustang dynamically equivalent to the comp pack e90 m3). And the obvious maintenance and used car stuff were downsides. As a designer, the far superior styling of the Mustang made it a much more attractive proposition.

It’s through turo, actually real cheap too, comparable to a subcompact from any of the major rental agencies.

You know, I thought it would be a laugh to rent one a bit, but god damn they made a good car. Really has me tempted now.

Ah, that was sort of what I was thinking. Actually just met the ceo of Turo the other day.
Auto? Theres no way in hell I would ever put a manual car on there.

Yep it’s an auto, the only thing I don’t dig, but totally understand why.

Go drive one with the performance pack. The upgrades really do make it quite a bit more capable and fun.
They are a great performance car bargain. I bought mine for 6k under msrp too..

The transmission (mt82) in the ‘15 and up GT’s is much better than it was in the ‘11-’14 GT’s but it can still be sort of shitty when its cold(and can be notchy even when warm).
The 10 speed auto coming in 2018 should be much better than the 6 speed you drove.

I’m a manual elitist, so that’s how I’d have it.

Right on, I’ll give one a try, only real concern is consumables when tracking (it’s one of the things that keeps me in my FR-S, soo cheap to track)

At this point I’ve almost forgotten about the pony projectors. I don’t unlock the car from a distance so I don’t really ever see them, so when someone comments on them I go “what? Oh yeah those things!”. Makes it fun to have

I’ve had a boostang for 10 months, I love it.
Why wouldn’t you recommend it?

I drove a GT before an Ecoboost and I didn’t think the GT was worth stretching my budget over. It’s a fun car but the EB is no slouch. Especially now that you can get a tune and keep the warranty: it’s a fast car that has tons of torque. It also feels better balanced, and the money saved on gas mileage is nothing compared to the money saved on purchase.
Get whichever one you want, you won’t be disappointed

For a sports car it just didn’t feel very sporty to me. It lacked chutzpah.

Sport mode felt pretty sporty. Tuned it’s very sporty

Yeah, like I said, the EB is plenty fast. I really prefer the character of the coyote v8 over the EB 4. The V8 is sort of honda-like in that it really wakes up at high revs, where as the EB motor is more like a VAG turbo 4, in that, it is more of a low down torque sort of motor. Felt really flat at high revs.
Absolutely nothing wrong with the EB...In fact, one of the fastest s550 stangs at nationals level autox in the country is an EB. I have competed against him and ridden in it, its really fast.

The Ford tune fixes the top end, the car pulls all the way to redline now. I actually want to test drive a GT now and see how it compares

Nice. Yeah, I was thinking of getting the stage 1 ford racing tune for my car, the flat shift feature would be awesome for autocross.
